Yes, we can? The gay community elects the messenger but loses the message

True to his vision of uniting rather than dividing, President elect Obama sparks outrage in the LGBT community, selecting Rev. Rick Warren to deliver the invocation at his inauguration.

While the expressed outrage within the LGBT community is understandable, consider this… if we genuinely hope to understand one another beyond media sound bites and unite this nation, we must first acknowledge, listen and understand those whose beliefs would separate us.

By looking at what unites us rather than what divides us, Obama’s inclusive forum serves as the collective first step of a nation and with it the hope of inspiring meaningful dialog, based on one simple truth… we are all created equal and afforded the rights to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Now is the time to support our newly elected president and remind ourselves, we are all people first and agendas second.

Yes, we can move forward as a people and as a nation.
